Dorian,

Do you mean to tell me chat you're black (aka of African American descent)? MESSAGE!

I'm tripping. This is probably the second post that I've read by you. Why you gotta dog Flav? Why does Obama need to BBQ swine on the White House porch? That's the mentality of the lower middle class. Hell it's lower, lower class.

And another thing, D. Welcome to the Devil's Devil's Advocate (DDA for the syllably challenged.

I enjoyed the post. I'm too underappreciated, monetarily challenged for those that don't dig me yet, to sit in the front rows of the plane. However, I feel what you're saying. This post had me wondering. Okay, was he joking about Sean and Faison or not. Keep posting. Keep pushing.

By the way, loved your part in Krush Groove. Again, just being silly.

I'm just glad to be here.

I also loved this post. I am originally from Africa and, ever since I came to the United States, I have heard more about race than I ever heard in the 30 years that I lived in my country. Anyway, I have found that it is best to analyze one's self and one's place in the world, not in the context of race but in the context of oneself. I never attribute anything that happens to me to my race. I attribute it to myself and my capabilities and my intellect. I do things that I personally find gratifying to me and not to anybody else. For this reason, I am comfortable listening to Africa's rhumba king Papa Wemba's music or South Africa's Brenda Fassie's music (May she R.I.P) or to HipHop or to Reggae or to (believe it or not) Dolly Parton and Don Williams. I enjoy watching baseball, soccer, movies, award shows, documentaries...whatever I like. I love cocktails, BBQs, cookouts, clubs, parties, conferences and seminars. I love reading about different religious perspectives and believe in preserving traditional customary law in Africa. I am a body of contrasts. I am simple and complicated. I love what I love, I do what I do, I think what I think and I define myself for myself. In the end, that is what I would urge all people to do because it is the most satisfying way to live life.

I LOVE THIS POST!!!! and truer words have never been spoken...except maybe in the early drafts of my own dissertation on racial identity in urban areas. As a teacher in a lower socio-economic neighborhood having been raised in a upper-middle class socio-economic neighborhood, I come face to face with this very same issue on the "street" level and not Hollywood...but the issue is still the same. We need you token black guys and me, the token black girl, to show the rest of the world all the different sides of this glorious thing called Being Black.....
