PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA – 3 March 2010 – The World Economic Forum announced today that Jacob Lief, Founder and President of Ubuntu Education Fund, has been recognized as a Young Global Leader. This honor is bestowed by the World Economic Forum each year to recognize the most distinguished young leaders below the age of 40 from around the world.

Radiotjänst i Kiruna AB (literally, “Radio Service in Kiruna”) is Sweden’s TV licensing body. It is a private corporation, formed in 1988 and based in Kiruna. The company is a subsidiary of the three Swedish public service broadcasters: Sveriges Television, Sveriges Radio and Sveriges Utbildningsradio. Under Swedish law everyone who owns a television set is required to pay the license fee, currently 2032 kronor (€ 210) per year (2008). The fee is collected by Radiotjänst but administered by Swedish government office Swedish National Debt Office (“Riksgäldskontoret”) by means of a special account, the so-called “rundradiokontot”. — via Wikipedia

All of the above company speak withstanding, these folks have put together a helluva compelling and enjoyable campaign to thank their population for doing what they have no choice to do: PAY FEES.

CR&S (an acronym for Cafe Racers and Superbikes) is a Milan-based bike builder made quite an impact at this year’s Milan International Bike Show. This custom built naked bike integrates various styling elements in a stunning way, combining the sportiness and of a European bike with an American-style v-twin engine and dominant presence. The styling is absolutely outstanding; it seems to unify the brutal engineering of a Confederate bike with the chrome details of a Harley, and adding some curves and form in a very Italian- Ducati kind of way. Seems that aside from the seating options, we’re not sure what else can be customized on the bike, but for a relatively low $30,000, we would be happy to let the professionals at CR&S make this decision for us.

Real photography. Authentic locations. Emerging cinema. After my time in South Africa last year I’ve been thinking about a story that could be served well with that beautiful backdrop. I’ll be checking for this project…

It’s rare that I do the direct endorsement but today is one of those days. Please take time out to watch Noro Ejaita’s cut of the short film that my good friend Tony Dreannan directed last fall.

It’s called MITTE which means ‘middle’ in German and is also how they refer to the center of Berlin. As for the rest, you’ll have to watch to find out!
