Directing: The Play’s The Thing (VIDEO)

Episode 6 – The Directors, Part 1 from Patranila Jefferson on Vimeo.

Last summer I was a guest director at Hollie Harper’s Playgroup. I totally forgot they had filmed this exercise. Click above to see what happened…

Beautiful stories are being told as the recent DSLR wave of filmmaking has taken viewers and filmmakers by storm!

C3Stories was no exception when the Canon 7D was used in the production of All Gifted: The Meet and Greet, then again with Pete Chatmon of Double 7 Film to do the post production of The Bridge: Velvet Rope: Girls’ Night Out, shot exclusively on the Canon 7D by Leyla Tatiana Rosario.

August 26th is Women’s Equality Day

Hello World,

My name is Leyla Tatiana Rosario, aka Leyla, aka Ley. This is my first official blog on Double 7 World. What better way to start off my thread than on Women’s Equality Day!

Bella Azbug on the cover of Life magazine (1972 year)

Thanks to U.S. congresswoman Bella Azbug, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granted women the right to vote. Women’s Equality Day is such an important day because it not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but it raises awareness to women who fight for full equality, basic rights, and liberty.

A special shout out to:

Tiffany Edwards, Education Director at the One Club. I’m proud to brag that my dear friend and colleague Tiffany Edwards was selected as one of the members of ADCOLOR®’s Class of 2010 ceremony, under the Rising Star category….Congrats Tiffany, you truly are a Rising Star!

  • REAL TALK Teaser Trailer from Patrick Ng on Vimeo.

I’m a man of many hats. Last year I served on a production supervision committee at NYU’s, Tisch School of the Arts. I reviewed scores (that’s by the 20′s!) of projects with a critical eye toward logistics, but also creative with the students who sought such an exchange. Patrick Ng was one of the last I approved and it’s a pleasure seeing this trailer come together as he worked for me in the past and was a PA on a music video I directed for R&B artist Joe. Tip your hat to the young cats. I do (and I ain’t even that old)!

It was my pleasure to see this project come together from the sidelines.

things that show me I can do more with not much.

  • I’m a little worked up today. I just read a thread of nasty posts ending with the post entitled, “The Dark Arts” The Great DP Debate, over at filmmaker, Dan Parkes blog Ambleton Delight which chronicles the behind-the-scenes efforts on his feature film of the same name.

I think comments on these posts are a great study in some of the nastier hidden dynamics of the culture in this industry. Long-story short, Dan posted one of many (40+) blog posts documenting the making of his feature film, Ambleton Delight, and in it he described how he could only afford to hire his pro DP for the major scenes and shot and lit many other scenes himself. (He’s also a DP.)

  • Put This On Does Directing

I often recommend to filmmakers that they dress nicely when they are directing. I think that especially when you’re the director, you should dress like a grownup who knows what he or she is doing. Here’s some great advice to that effect from Paul Feig, Jesse Thorn and Adam Lisagor. Holler!

  • Needed: Super 8MM Film Camera

I started my career, if that’s accurate to say, when I picked up one of these bad boys back in 1993/94. Used to develop the black and white footage myself, and send the color film to Texas. I’m looking to use one for a project I have to do and wanted to know if any of you good people out there have a Super 8MM camera that I can either rent from ya, borrow, or whatever. Hit me on TWITTER and we’ll figure it out. Or comment here if for some reason you ain’t tweeting!
