  • I know it’s a Saturday but I wanted to send this message out. 65 years ago the beaches of Normandy were stormed in what was essentially a last ditch effort to turn the tide of WWII and overthrow Hitler’s Germany.

From 2006 – 2008 I had the pleasure of directing a documentary on the first black tank battalion in WWII, the 761st Tank Battalion. I learned firsthand what it felt like to go through the trials and tribulations of the Great War and why these men are often referred to as “The Greatest Generation”.

We released the DVD a few weeks ago on Amazon and I ask that you pick it up, spread the word and tell all the veterans you know that is available to see. Their story was omitted from most history book, but it can’t be ignored anymore with the presence of this film for all to see!

Emmy winning actor Andre Braugher narrated the doc and we interviewed 13 original members of the battalion, the majority of whom have passed away, leaving just a handful of tankers alive. I also interviewed General Colin Powell (which was a tad bit intimidating) and over and over again I found myself humbled by the experiences of these great men. It was my honor to be a part of this project and I hope you support this DVD, ensuring that these stories are told over and over again. Let us never forget.

In 2003, Maroma Productions took the initial steps to capture exclusive footage of the first black tankers in WWII — the 761st Tank Battalion. Double 7 Film was approached to consolidate the initial interviews and build a cinematic narrative to surround their first person accounts. Captured in High Definition, this 72 minute documentary includes conversations with General Colin Powell, tank expert Dr. William F. Atwater, and many more military historians. 761st will be released on DVD in Winter 2008, complete with 5 Viral Special Features designed for strategic niche marketing.

761st DVD: Thoughts + Feedback (Global)

This is something new from Double 7 Film. We are preparing to release the DVD for 761st and thought we’d post an early draft of the DVD menu, currently being designed by the ultra-talented Adam Hark (who also edited the film and did all the graphics in the film).

Let us know what you think. Quality on this site may not be that great, but the film was shot in HD.

The document in the background is the Emancipation Proclamation, coinciding with our theme and concept “From Slaves to Soldiers”.

    Peep the trailer HERE.

Discuss. FYI there is no sound in the above clip.

RIP: Mr. Rufus Davis Taylor (Michigan)

    Posted by D7W

We are saddened to inform you of the death of Rufus D. Taylor, one of the many soldiers interviewed in our documentary on the 761st Tank Battalion. Mr. Taylor would have been 97 years old next year.

We should all take a moment to remember and be thankful for the service of the hundreds of thousands of soldiers that fought in WWII.
