LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “SIGN YOUR NAME” (1995)

This week we place the spotlight on Sananda Maitreya! You probably remember him as Terence Trent D’Arby, who broke onto the scene in 1987 with the internationally acclaimed album The Hardline. With hits including Wishing Well and Sign Your Name, TTD introduced the world to a poetic lyricism and voice to match the maestro Sam Cooke.

I have to proclaim my lack of objectivity on this week’s Featured Artist. Sananda Maitreya is one of my favorite musicians and if you like good music (yeah, man!) than I imagine you will fall in step, if you’re not already. Sananda took the time to answer a double dosage of my 7 Questions, so check back for Part II tomorrow. He was very candid and truthful with each response and a pleasure to interview. ************ 7 QUESTIONS WITH SANANDA MAITREYA ************

1. When did you realize this would be your career?

$ – I beg to differ kind sir, the question is, when did I realize my ‘calling’? I do not have nor trust a ‘career’ which can be given and taken away even if you earn it. A man such as myself, focuses not on career but simply ‘work’. Work I trust, ‘career’ I do not. At the age of 2 years, upon hearing the Beatles, thereafter, 2 other pieces of music riveted my young attention, the theme from ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ’Moon River’ sung by the great Andy Williams and the theme from the TVseries, BATMAN. I also remember a popular Coca-Cola radio jingle which got my attention, all at the age of 2. A calling is more comprehensive than a career and has more built in protections from spirit, if you trust that it is spirit that induced the call. This is my blood expressed in song.

Only a few American Menswear designers deliver the stylish clothing that doesn’t require posing the question, “you sure this looks alright?” to everyone that you know. Since 2000, Double 7 World has been endorsing John Varvatos with full vigor.

Visit his website HERE and if you are in NYC, visit the Flagship Store where CBGB’s once stood. It is an exercise in restraint to not buy everything in there.

Featured Artist Lorena Sturlese is also a photographer for Primera Linea magazine’s offices in Barcelona. It’s interesting to see these kinds of photos when taken by a woman. Less objective, more artistic, and the models seem to interact with the camera more naturally. You decide.

We’re starting something new here with Featured Artist #4, Lorena Sturlese. Each artist or trendsetter will be answering “7 Questions” from Double 7 World so we can get a closer look into their lives. See what she has to say below!

#1: “What are the first 3 websites you visit when you log-on to the internet?” AND “What is your favorite techie device right now?” (this is a 2 for 1!)
Yahoo, Myspace and Google.(And now Double 7 world too!). And my favorite techie…. I should say my camera.

#2: “What’s in your wallet/purse?”
Anything but money. Lol, seriously… Just what’s necessary. My identification, a little money, business cards…

#3: “What accomplishment in your life (professional or personal) are you most proud of?”
I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been brave and determined enough to leave aside a life that wasn’t satisfying me, to start putting all my energies in what I really love to do. My art. Personally, I’m proud to have grown up to be a good person that is able to inspire others by my actions and by my work. There’s nothing more satisfiying for me than that.
