This is Part II of the 7 Questions our Featured Folks answer. Sananda continues with the honesty that he dropped on Double 7 World yesterday. Check it out!

    1. What would you consider your greatest lesson learned from your musical career?

£ – Trust always your faith in your own sensibility. Even if they kill you, you come back with more than you left with or was taken away. It does help to have faith in a higher power, even if that just means your absolute faith in your own dream and your worthiness in having it fulfilled.

    2. If someone handed you a magic wand for the US music industry, what would you do first?

£ – KILL ALL THE LAWYERS, as our prominent friend Shakespeare has already suggested. The rest should simply be beaten and forgotten about. They have done music no great favours and have deliberately and in conjunction with the state, deprived it of its vision in the name of ceaseless profits and old consciousness social programming. They steal from our culture yet mock it for wishing to be more.

LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “SIGN YOUR NAME” (1995)

This week we place the spotlight on Sananda Maitreya! You probably remember him as Terence Trent D’Arby, who broke onto the scene in 1987 with the internationally acclaimed album The Hardline. With hits including Wishing Well and Sign Your Name, TTD introduced the world to a poetic lyricism and voice to match the maestro Sam Cooke.

I have to proclaim my lack of objectivity on this week’s Featured Artist. Sananda Maitreya is one of my favorite musicians and if you like good music (yeah, man!) than I imagine you will fall in step, if you’re not already. Sananda took the time to answer a double dosage of my 7 Questions, so check back for Part II tomorrow. He was very candid and truthful with each response and a pleasure to interview. Check it out below!

    ************ 7 QUESTIONS WITH SANANDA MAITREYA ************

    1. When did you realize this would be your career?

$ – I beg to differ kind sir, the question is, when did I realize my ‘calling’? I do not have nor trust a ‘career’ which can be given and taken away even if you earn it. A man such as myself, focuses not on career but simply ‘work’. Work I trust, ‘career’ I do not. At the age of 2 years, upon hearing the Beatles, thereafter, 2 other pieces of music riveted my young attention, the theme from ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, ’Moon River’ sung by the great Andy Williams and the theme from the TVseries, BATMAN. I also remember a popular Coca-Cola radio jingle which got my attention, all at the age of 2. A calling is more comprehensive than a career and has more built in protections from spirit, if you trust that it is spirit that induced the call. This is my blood expressed in song.

More from Sananda after the jump, including a live performance of Wishing Well!

Depending on your age, y’all should remember Terence Trent D’Arby who murdered the charts with his 1987 debut album “The Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby”, featuring the hits “Wishing Well”, “Sign Your Name”, and “If You Let Me Stay”. While the record industry wasn’t ready for his versatility, make sure YOU don’t dismiss the talent.
